The Counseling Referral service was started in 2005 with a grant from Gamma Mu Foundation when we responded to a need for LGBTQ supportive counselors. Especially in our area, people mayfi nd counselors who first want to fix the "gay and lesbian" problem. We believe that finding a group of LGBTQ counselors to whom we can refer callers is essential.
The counselors on our list have applied to be a referral and have been screened. Each brings experience and knowledge specifically about LGBTQ issues, as well as in areas such as couple's counseling, substance abuse, family concerns and other more serious mental health issues.
Callers to our referral service (901-347-8701) are then referred to counselors from the list. Our agreements with the counselors provides a sliding-scale fee structure so that low-income individuals will be able to afford the counseling that they may need. No confidential information is housed by MGLCC. For more information about the program, please call the Executive Director at 901-278-6422.
