When I began volunteering at the MGLCC, I was initially drawn in due to my love of movies. I wanted to work with OutFlix and thought that would really be the end of the story.  That all changed when I began meeting at the Center. I suddently realized that the MGLCC connected me to MY community. I met people from all walks of life, many who have inspired me in ways I could never have imagined. MGLCC has helped shape me into a better person and helped me find a way for me to help others that I never even knew existed.

MGLCC means a lot to me because in its core, it encourages so many to take up the cause of Equality, Diversity, and Self-worth. The Community Center strives to reach out to all in Memphis. Teens, young adults, and seniors can find that they have a place they can actively find support wherever they are in their journey. We need more to join us so we can grow together as an organization, and community.

 Treasurer

Carolyn Witcover

Email: ehughes@mglcc.org

Carolyn became involved with MGLCC in 2008 when she returned to Memphis after living in Hawaii and Pennsylvania for several years. She has a finance background and was with First Tennessee Bank for over 20 years having lastly been the SVP heading up the Small Business Market for the corporation. Her experience in strategy, budgeting, lending, sales, and marketing led her to assist other non-profits in their start-up phase and also to own a bookstore in Memphis and a joint venture in a commercial bakery in Hawaii.  She enjoys the freedom of semi-retirement and currently works part-time as the business manager for a faith-based organization engaged in community development. MGLCC has been important to Carolyn who decided she wanted to be more active and out front in gay rights and the community and she feels lucky to have met her current partner at one of the Meristem book club nights at the center three years ago.

Audrey May

Email: amay@mglcc.org

Audrey became an activist when she found the women's movement at the age of 17. Since 1998, she has worked at the Memphis Public Library, where she manages daily operations for the LINC/2-1-1 social services information call center. A master's level social worker, Audrey was owner and manager of Meristem feminist bookstore, and also worked in an anti-poverty organization, a women's reproductive health center, at a TV station and at a major university. She has served on the boards of several professional and political organizations. She was a 1993 recipient of the Women of Achievement award for Vision. A native Memphian and proud grandmother, Audrey loves:  networking with other women, reading and talking about books (especially at Meristem Book Club), yoga, dancing, kayaking -- and, of course, ensuring the Center has the resources it needs to grow and serve the community! She joined the MGLCC Board of Directors in 2011 and is an active member of the Development Committee.
